The Network
The Network is fully meshed and redundant with 6 backbone providers. Our current network consists of ATT (OC3), UUNet (1Gbps), InterNap (1Gbps), Qwest (1Gbps), TBD (1Gbps) and Cogent Communications (2x100Mbps).
Internet connections are multi-homed with BGP4 technology from multiple Tier 1 backbone providers (Level3 and UUNet/MCI) on redundant Cisco 7204 routers and Foundry BigIron switches. There will be two dedicated 100Mbps feeds providing the bandwidth for each rack.
The network also includes Intelligent Routing (IR) which takes BGP to the next level. BGP just looks for the shortest amount of network hops but does not take line speed our quality into account.
The network will actually look at all available paths to customers and route them down the quickest path, without adding any latency. It also prevents network brown-outs and provider latency issues. The data center itself was built with N+1 (at least) redundancy in all systems including HVAC, power, security and network systems.
With the network located in the central U.S., customers from within the U.S. will all experience good network response times while still maintaining the peering arrangements and Tier-1 quality to those that are overseas.
